Young people have high uric acid levels, and they need to use the same source of medicine and food to help

May 13, 2024

According to statistics in 2020, the number of patients with hyperuricemia in China has reached 180 million, and the number of gout patients has reached 100 million. Epidemiological investigations have found that 70% of patients compete for young people aged 20-40. Terrifying uric acid hypergout and hyperuricemia are the results of abnormal purine metabolism in the human body. Two fasting uric acid tests, with a value greater than 420 μ mol/L in males and 360 μ mol/L in females, can diagnose hyperuricemia. According to statistics, about 5% -12% of patients with hyperuricemia eventually develop gout. Patients with hyperuricemia who suffer from gout complications have a higher mortality rate and an average lifespan reduced by 15 years compared to normal individuals. So why is hyperuricemia so prevalent? In addition to genetic factors, it is also closely related to lifestyle factors, and most of the six reasons are related to eating.

1. Too much meat diet

The sudden change in dietary structure is the culprit behind the transformation of gout in Chinese people from being "rare" in the past to being "frequent" or even "high incidence" today. Our ancestors mainly relied on cereal food, but in our generation, the food structure suddenly changed and became dominated by meat. A large amount of purine in meat will be converted into uric acid, which greatly exceeds the physiological metabolism and excretion capacity, leading to hyperuricemia, so the incidence rate of gout increases rapidly.

2. Drinking too many sweet drinks

Most sweet drinks contain fructose syrup, and there is a direct correlation between gout attacks and the intake of fructose syrup. People who drink drinks containing fructose syrup 5-6 times a week have a 29% higher risk of developing gout than normal people, while those who drink drinks containing fructose syrup more than 2 times a day have an 85% higher risk of developing gout!

3. Likes smoking and drinking alcohol

Liking to smoke and drink can increase the risk of developing gout. Don't worry about any alcohol. In the face of gout, no alcohol is good. Alcohol does not contain purines or produce uric acid, and its metabolic product is lactic acid. But it is precisely this lactic acid that competes with uric acid in the kidneys to inhibit its excretion. Quitting alcohol is crucial as all types of alcohol can trigger gout. Beer is the fastest and contains carbon dioxide, which is absorbed quickly. Carbon dioxide is converted into carbon dioxide, lowering the pH value and causing obstruction of uric acid excretion.

4. Too much obesity

Obese individuals are more likely to have high levels of uric acid, as most of them eat too well, such as big fish and sweet drinks, but lack sufficient exercise. Overweight or obesity is one of the factors that trigger gout, and weight loss can help reduce the risk of gout attacks.

5. Too little exercise

Moderate exercise can accelerate metabolism and facilitate the excretion of body waste, including uric acid. Eating too much meat and fish not only leads to obesity, but also affects metabolism.

6. Staying up too late and feeling too stressed

In recent years, analysis has found that excessive stress has become one of the main factors inducing gout in young people. Overtime and staying up late are inevitable for many young people nowadays. Overexertion can disrupt the regulation of the body's autonomic nervous system, leading to constriction of blood vessels on the surface and organs, including the kidneys, resulting in reduced uric acid excretion. If you work hard for a long time and become excessively fatigued, it may trigger gout.
The treatment of high uric acid mainly improves lifestyle. For example, having a healthy diet, quitting smoking, exercising regularly, and controlling weight. A healthy diet, with gout, hyperuricemia, cardiovascular metabolic risk factors, and middle-aged and elderly populations, should focus on low purine foods, strictly control the intake of meat, seafood, and animal organs, and reduce the intake of Class B foods in moderate amounts, with Class A foods being the main food intake. Drink more water. Drinking more than 1500ml of quitting alcohol every day. Quit smoking, ban beer, Baijiu and red wine. Persist in exercise, control weight, and engage in moderate intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. Obese individuals should lose weight and keep it within the normal range.

Avoid using drugs that increase blood uric acid levels. Such as diuretics (especially thiazides), corticosteroids, insulin, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, nicotine, pyrazinamide, niacin, etc. For patients who need to take diuretics and are complicated with hyperuricemia, non thiazide diuretics are preferred. At the same time, alkalize urine and drink plenty of water to maintain a daily urine output of 2000ml or more. Some medicinal and edible materials such as mulberry leaves, ginkgo biloba leaves, perilla, and gynostemma can also be used to brew tea and drink.
