This product is the dried and ripe fruit of the Rosaceae plant Shanlihong or Hawthorn. Harvested in autumn when fruits are ripe, sliced, and dried.
Appearance: This product is a circular tablet with uneven wrinkles, a diameter of 1-2.5cm, and a thickness of 0.2-0.4cm. The outer skin is red with wrinkles and small grayish white spots. The flesh is dark yellow to light brown. The central transverse section has 5 light yellow fruit nuclei, but the nuclei are mostly detached and hollow. Some slices show short and thin fruit stalks or remnants of sepals. The air is slightly fragrant, with a sour and slightly sweet taste.
Taste and meridian tropism: sour, sweet, slightly warm. Returning to the Spleen, Stomach, and Liver Meridians
Functions and Indications: Digestive and healthy stomach, promoting qi circulation, dispersing blood stasis, and reducing turbidity and cholesterol. Used for meat stagnation, bloating in the epigastric region, diarrhea and abdominal pain, blood stasis and menstrual obstruction, postpartum blood stasis, chest pain, hernia pain, hyperlipidemia. The digestive and stasis inducing effects of roasted hawthorn are enhanced. Used for meat stagnation, diarrhea and discomfort.
