1. Sedative and hypnotic effects The total flavonoids and total saponins in zizyphus jujube seed have sedative and hypnotic effects on rats, mice, cats and other animals by inhibiting spontaneous activity of mice and synergistic sedative and hypnotic effects of pentobarbital sodium.

The effects of ziziphus jujube seed alkaloids on convulsion latency, death time and mortality of mice induced by strychnine were studied. It was found that the time of convulsion and death of mice given total alkaloids and cyclic peptide alkaloids were significantly prolonged, indicating that ziziphus jujube seed alkaloids had anti-convulsion effect.
