Adjusting the balance of gut microbiota

Hayakawa et al. found that soy oligosaccharides containing 23% and purified ones containing 71% stachyose can be effectively utilized by human intestinal bifidobacteria, significantly increasing the number of bifidobacteria in feces.
A culture medium was prepared using soybean oligosaccharides, stachyose, cottonseed sugar, and sucrose as substrates, and inoculated with human fecal bifidobacteria and Escherichia coli, respectively. It was found that stachyose is the main factor promoting the growth of bifidobacteria.
Research has shown that adding 0.8% and 1.0% stachyose to lactobacillus culture medium (MRS) can significantly accelerate the growth of human bifidobacterium BB01.
In addition to preferentially utilizing non digestible oligosaccharides in the intestine, Bifidobacterium can also preferentially consume stachyose in the presence of multiple non digestible oligosaccharides. Therefore, stachyose can directly proliferate Bifidobacterium.

Due to the presence of α- The structure of 1,6-galactose, based on the molecular mechanism of receptor sympathetic response, participates in biological processes such as immunity, pathogen cell adsorption, etc., making stachyose have the function of preventing pathogen infection, neutralizing toxins, and regulating the immune system.
Mice were orally administered with water soluble sugar (0.2 mL per 10g body weight) once a day for 30 consecutive days. The results showed that the humoral immune function and monocyte macrophage function of the mice were positive. In addition, under the action of Bifidobacterium, stachyose can decompose and produce multiple immune function factors that enhance human immunity, which has the function of enhancing human immunity.

Stachyose is a small molecule water-soluble dietary fiber that is preferentially utilized by bifidobacteria upon reaching the large intestine, producing a large amount of short chain fatty acids such as acetic acid, propionic acid, and butyric acid.
According to reports, 103 constipation patients improved their bowel movements and enhanced intestinal function by taking a daily infusion containing 5g of stachyose.
Meanwhile, stachyose molecules contain a large number of hydroxyl groups, which can effectively absorb water in the intestine and have a relieving effect on diarrhea.

In addition, stachyose also has functions such as protecting the liver, inhibiting cancer, inhibiting specific dermatitis, anti arthritis, preventing dental caries, preventing colitis, removing lead, lowering blood pressure and blood lipids, antioxidant and anti-aging.
